Christmas and New Year Table Linen Guide

A Christmas table does not need much. A tablecloth that fits, a runner or a few napkins, and a pattern you like looking at for three hours of dinner. This guide helps you choose from the MOONLINEN Christmas collection: linen in five patterns, made in Ukraine in small batches, with every piece checked before it ships.

Which pattern for which mood

Christmas Trees suits a calm, natural table. The colours in this collection are brown, green, natural and navy, so it sits well with candles, pine branches and plain white plates.

Snowflakes is the cool, wintry choice. It comes in white with gray, white with blue, white with red and plain blue. Pick it when you want a bright table that still feels like December.

Christmas Ornaments is the classic family Christmas, in white and red. It works well for a big table with children, where the cloth should look festive but not fussy.

Christmas Village is the storybook pattern. Choose it for a table where people will stay long after dessert and look at the details.

Christmas Night is for evening dinners by candlelight. It comes in red and navy, and it is the one to pick if your Christmas dinner starts after dark.

Tablecloth sizes for your table

Our Christmas tablecloths come in two sizes: 140 x 140 cm and 140 x 210 cm. Measure your table first. For a nice hang, leave about 20 to 30 cm of cloth on each side.

  • 140 x 140 cm fits a square table of about 80 to 90 cm, or a small round table. A good choice for four people.
  • 140 x 210 cm fits a rectangular table of about 90 x 150 cm. This is the size for six people.

Christmas tablecloths cost EUR 25 to 40 depending on pattern and size. Because we work in small batches, some colours and sizes sell out. If your first choice is gone, another colour in the same pattern usually looks just as good.

A runner over a plain cloth

You do not have to cover the whole table with a pattern. Put a runner over a plain cloth, or straight on the wood, and add napkins in the same design. It is the simplest way to dress a Christmas table, and it works on tables of any size. Christmas runners cost EUR 20 and napkins EUR 15. If you already own a white or natural cloth, a runner and four napkins give you a full Christmas table for a small budget.

A New Year's Eve table

For New Year's Eve, keep the pattern quiet and let the evening do the work. Navy and white are an easy pair: Christmas Night in navy with plain white plates, or a blue Snowflakes cloth with candles and glasses. Linen holds its shape well when plates and glasses move around, and it looks relaxed at midnight when the table is a little messy. Linen as a Christmas gift

A set of napkins or a runner is an easy gift for someone who hosts. It is useful, it is not something most people already have, and it can be wrapped in minutes. Napkins start at EUR 10 in our wider range and EUR 15 in the Christmas patterns. See our gift guide for more ideas by person and budget.
